This crochet photo tutorial includes a traditional granny square pattern that teaches you a technique for weaving in the color change tails as you go. You will also learn a little bit about how to read written patterns.
If you need help with the basic stitches needed to make a granny square, check out this tutorial. Print out my handy pattern decoder.
materials needed:
- an I (5.50mm) size crochet hook {you could use any size really, as long as it works with your yarn choice}
- at least 1 color worsted medium weight yarn. I used 5 colors from Vanna White’s collection.
Practice your granny squares… Crochet 101 continues with ideas for more projects.
I’m gonna share some variations of the granny square, too. Some are super easy, and others a bit more intricate. Don’t worry though, I will walk you through each one, with more of my easy to follow illustrated patterns.
thanks for the awesome tutorial… i’m a total amateur and only just starting out in the world of crochet so having this on hand is going to be a godsend! i can’t wait for the addiction to begin
